Development
Our development section in conjunction with the prospective tenants, Local Adult and Community Services (Formerly Social Services), Primary Care Trusts, nationally recognised Registered Charities (for example Mencap) will discuss the wants, needs and aspirations of the tenants. This discussion will assist in the selection of a suitable property, in the desired geographic area.
Once the property has been purchased the tenants and where appropriate their families, Care Agency staff, Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, Architectural services and Building contractors can be involved in the specification of the adaptations to suit the individual needs of the future tenants, with all work carried out by our contractors to the highest standards. The typical kinds of adaptations we can undertake are as follows.
- External ramps and level access
- Widening external and internal doors for wheelchair access
- Installation and maintenance of tracking/lifting systems
- Installation and maintenance of specialist variable height bathing equipment
- Creation of fully accessible flat floor shower areas
- Bathing water thermostatically controlled to 43o Cent
- Showers electronically controlled to 43o Cent
- Specialist shower toilets or high level toilets
- Fitting grab and handrails both external and internal
- Variable height kitchen worktops/sinks
This list is by no means exhaustive and all adaptations can be considered.
During the development stage of the house we will endeavor to involve the future tenants as much as possible to ease their move, and allay any fears or concerns they may have about their new home. Empower’s Housing Management team will also during this stage work closely with the tenants and their appointees to deal with any housing related needs they may have regarding the move.
